Why Should I Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

If you do not have enough room in your mouth for your third molars to fully erupt, a number of problems can happen. Impacted wisdom teeth should be removed before their root structure is fully developed. In some patients, it is as early as 12 or 13; in others, it may not be until the early twenties. Problems tend to occur with increasing frequency after the age of 30. Some of the possible problems related to not removing your wisdom teeth include:
Infection
Cyst Formation
Possible Crowding
Damage to Adjacent Teeth

Single tooth implants are the most technologically advanced way to restore missing teeth. They look and feel much like a natural tooth, and they can provide a lifetime of benefits, such as improved oral health, increased self-confidence, and enhanced quality of life. Single tooth implants can also help to prevent the shifting of teeth and the loss of bone mass. If you are considering a single implant, visit our implant dentists in Bergen County, Essex County, Morris County, and Middlesex County to learn more about your options.

What is a Single Tooth Implant?

A single tooth implant is a dental implant post supporting an abutment. The abutment protrudes above the gum and holds a dental implant crown. A single implant can restore a missing tooth anywhere in the mouth. The implant tooth will emerge from the surrounding gum tissue, just like a real tooth. It provides excellent functionality and restores appearance seamlessly.
Single tooth implants offer a number of advantages over other tooth replacement options, such as bridges and dentures. They are more durable, comfortable, and natural-looking. They also help to preserve jawbone health and prevent the shifting of adjacent teeth.
If you have lost small teeth, such as front teeth or lower incisors, or have inadequate bone density for a single tooth implant, a dental mini implant is a good option. Mini dental implants are a smaller, less invasive alternative to traditional dental implants.
If you are considering a single tooth implant, be sure to consult with a Riverside Oral Surgery qualified dentist or oral surgeon. If you are missing a tooth, a single-tooth implant may be the right solution. Contact your dentist or oral surgeon today to learn more.

A full-scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon focusing on complex office-based procedures, including laser-assisted dental implant surgery, advanced bone grafting, wisdom tooth extraction, exposures of impacted canines for orthodontic patients, and so on much more.

Dr. Jason M. Auerbach is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. This dual certification — and the expertise it reflects — enables Dr. Auerbach to provide patients with the full range of oral and maxillofacial surgery services, including those requiring intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, at either of Riverside Oral Surgery‘s specially equipped and staffed offices. Dr. Auerbach’s areas of practice emphasis include dental implants, bone grafting, and wisdom teeth extraction.

Born in New York and raised in the metropolitan area, Dr. Auerbach attended New York University’s College of Dentistry, earning his DDS degree and graduating with honors. He then completed the prestigious Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Auerbach’s belief in the importance of education and training is evident in his dedication to the residents at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he volunteers his time. Dr. Auerbach is also on staff at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY.

Highly recruited out of training, Dr. Auerbach joined a prominent Park Ave practice in midtown Manhattan, where he honed much of his office-based surgical skill. Eventually making the decision to bring his family from New York City to Bergen County to practice in northern New Jersey, Dr. Auerbach began to focus on merging exceptional care with the patient experience to form what ultimately would become the basis for Riverside Oral Surgery.

Dr. Auerbach founded Riverside Oral Surgery in 2007 and, in so doing, began to realize his vision of providing the optimal patient experience through clinical excellence, compassionate care, and close attention to every detail. Since then, he has been honored regularly by colleagues and patients alike, including through his repeated inclusion in New Jersey magazine’s annual list of Top Dentists and similar recognition from other publications and organizations. The practice’s steady growth has led to change, so four oral and maxillofacial surgeons with specialized interests and expertise now provide care in Riverside Oral Surgery‘s original office in River Edge and now in Westwood. What has not changed, however, and what Dr. Auerbach emphasizes will never change, is his commitment — and that of all of his colleagues and team members — to that original, enduring vision of providing uncompromised care in an unparalleled setting.

Crooked teeth can cause problems that go beyond your appearance. When teeth are misaligned, they’re difficult to clean, which can lead to a greater chance of tooth decay or eventual tooth loss. If you’re reluctant to get traditional braces, reasons to consider Invisalign include:They’re virtually invisible and less likely to be noticed by others.
They’re removeable; you take them out to eat and brush. You do need to wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day.
There’s no need to avoid foods that you love, like apples, corn on the cob and other foods that braces forbid.
Invisalign pain is minimal compared to traditional braces. Aligners are comfortable and safe with no metal wires or sharp edges to irritate the inside of your mouth. Without braces, there’s no chance of food getting stuck in the device.

Traditional braces make brushing and flossing difficult. With Invisalign, you’re able to brush and floss your teeth normally. You aren’t likely to see an increase in cavities. Another benefit of Invisalign is that treatment time is shorter than traditional braces, usually lasting six to 18 months, depending on how much straightening your teeth need.

What Types of Dental Problems Does Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional braces for treating several types of misalignment problems with your teeth or your bite. It’s especially popular with adults who would rather not have traditional braces for cosmetic reasons. Dental problems that Invisalign may be able to correct, depending on the severity, include:Overbite
Underbite
Crossbite
Crowded teeth
Open bite
Gaps between teeth

The most important part of correcting bite or spacing problems is having the treatment plan prepared by a practitioner who has the expertise and experience to know what’s possible. This is what you’ll find when you trust Dr. Shalman with your alignment problems and other dental care.

What Is Dental Veneer?
A dental veneer is a thin porcelain or composite resin covering bound to the front of imperfect teeth to improve their appearance. The custom-made shells often play an integral role in a smile makeover. They’re also a more long-term solution to teeth discoloration than teeth whitening or other methods.

If you’ve tried other procedures to improve your smile without success, it’s time to consult Dr. Alex Shalman at his boutique dental office. Dr. Shalman is nicknamed “The Artist of the Smile” and is an expert in oral health and smile makeovers. He pays attention to detail and cares for your overall health. He specializes in cosmetic dentistry in New York City, where he serves families in the West Village, East Village, Chelsea, and the surrounding Lower Manhattan neighborhoods.
