Christina Fotopoulou trained in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialized in gynaecological oncology at the Charité University Hospital of Berlin in both the surgical and systemic treatment of women with advanced gynaecological malignancies and completed her PhD thesis entitled “Current Aspects in the Operative Treatment of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer”.

She is currently a Consultant Gynecological Oncologist and Adjunct Professor in the Imperial College London Healthcare Trust in Queen Charlottes Hospital in London and Ovarian Cancer Action Research center.

She has been the leading consultant and Vice Director of the Clinic for Gynecology at the Charité in Berlin, one of the largest reference and accredited centers for gynecological cancer in Germany, as well the Principal Coordinator of the European Competence Center for Ovarian Cancer, which was created in 2007 in Berlin.

Her principal area of clinical practice is in exenterative procedures for advanced forms of pelvic malignancies and in the cytoreductive debulking of primary or relapsed ovarian cancer. Furthermore, she was trained in the reconstructive surgery of oncologic patients after extensive exenterations.

Her area of research is the creation and validation of scores for optimal surgical quality, the analysis of tumour dissemination patterns, histopathological characteristics and surgical outcome in primary and relapsed of ovarian cancer and in the quality of life of patients after extensive operative procedures.

Christina Fotopoulou is a member of the German AGO- Ovarian Cancer Steering Group which is responsible for the generation of national guidelines for the management of ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian lesions. She is the surgical lead in the European Network for Translational Research in Ovarian Cancer (EUTROC) in the working package “Predicting surgical outcome”.

She has broad experience in national and international clinical and surgical trials in Germany and in innovative intraperitoneal immunotherapies in palliative stages of gynaecological malignancies.

She has lectured in many countries on her clinical research and surgical experience.

She is on the editorial board of two journals and reviewer in numerous international gynaecological and oncological journals and is member of various international oncological committees, including ASCO, ESGO, IGCS, ESMO, ENGOT, AGO and NOGGO.

Following medical training and subsequent specialist training in Medical Oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sarah was awarded a CRUK Junior Clinician Scientist PhD fellowship in 1999 at Cambridge University and held a Clinical Fellowship at the Institute of Cancer Research’s Drug Development Unit.

She was appointed as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at Imperial College in 2006 and became Director of Imperial’s Early Cancer Trials Unit and established her laboratory studying the dysregulation of mRNA translation in cancer. She has been chief or principal investigator for a number of national and international clinical studies.

John Green is a leading internationally recognised oncologist specializing in gynaecologic and ovarian cancers.

Professor Gabra is Co-Founder, Board Member and Chief Scientific Officer at Papyrus Therapeutics Inc; he also hold the position of Consultant Medical Oncologist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and is Professor Emeritus in Medical Oncology, Imperial College London.

He has extensive experience of preclinical cancer biology and clinical drug development, having previously been Chief Medical Officer at BerGenBio,Oxford, UK and Vice President in Early Clinical Development at AstraZeneca in Cambridge, UK, concurrently holding the positions of Professor of Medical Oncology at Imperial College London and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (since 2003) and Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers at University of Bergen. He was previously Head of Medical Oncology, Director of the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre and Head of Imperial College Cancer Clinical Trials Unit, as well as Chief of Service of the West London Gynaecological Cancer Centre at Imperial College London. Prior to that he was Cancer Research UK Clinical Scientist and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer/Consultant in Medical Oncology at the CRUK Medical Oncology Unit in the University of Edinburgh.

Prof Gabra is an internationally recognised leader in translational research and gynaecological oncology. His research interests include tumour suppressor genes that regulate receptor tyrosine kinase networks (including AXL), the molecular basis of clinical platinum resistance, and all phases of ovarian cancer clinical research. He is the author of more than 200 peer reviewed publications and patents, with over 15,000 citations associated with his publications.
